Despite proving they could be a strong team and true contenders, engaged couple John Erck and Jessica Hoel were eliminated from The Amazing Race: All-Stars after once again finding themselves the victims of bad timing.

Afghanimals and Country Singers Form An Alliance?

In a post-elimination interview with TV Guide, the season 22 alums who were famously eliminated with an Express Pass in hand admitted that if that situation had been available to them this time around, they would have taken full advantage.

"If we had an Express Pass this time, we definitely would've used it on the Spanish Steps!" Erck said in April 14 interview.

The couple also admitted that they encountered a series of unfortunate mistakes after their first-place finish at the detour during the leg, including a cabbie who genuinely believed he had taken them to the right place, and mistakenly believing, along with the Globetrotters and Afghanimals, that the Country Singers were still behind them all because of their Speed Bump task. That belief led the Afghanimals to share the answer to completing the Roadblock successfully with both teams under the promise none of them would U-Turn each other.

"At that point, since we were sharing answers, we were under the assumption, 'Oh, maybe there is a team behind us,' which we didn't think coming in," Erck said.

Though they wished things had gone a little differently for them this time, the couple did admit that being eliminated this time around was definitely easier for them because it was for reasons mostly beyond their control.

"I think it's way easier this time," Hoel said. "There wasn't too much that we could've done differently. The cabbie was out of her hands. A lot of it was just bad timing."
