With only eight celebrities left on Dancing With the Stars, the competition is heating up with three couples emerging as frontrunners.

Maks Chmerkovskiy Waiting On Apology From Julianne Hough After Harsh Comments?

Monday night's episode of Dancing With the Stars proved how close of a race this season has become, with several couples receiving nines and 10s for their dances.

While Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis has been the highest scoring celebrity for four weeks running, it was singer James Maslow who pulled ahead with partner Peta Murgatroyd on Monday with his Contemporary dance to Let It Go from Frozen. The dance received 10s from all four judges making it the first perfect score of the season.

Davis and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy were slightly lower than usual with a 36 out of 40, placing them in a tie for fifth for Week 5.

Actress Danica McKellar and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy were close to perfect Monday night with their Quickstep set to Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast. They received a 39 out of 40.

Paralympian Amy Purdy and Derek Hough tied for third along with Olympic ice dancer Charlie White and Sharna Burgess, each scoring 37 out of 40.

As for the celebrities who could be in trouble of elimination next week, comedian Drew Carey seems to be most in danger. His Quickstep with partner Cheryl Burke set to Friend Like Me from Aladdin received a score of 28 out of 40, ranking as easily the worst of the night.

Actress Candace Cameron Bure was the last celebrity to be called safe during Monday night's show, and she could be in danger again after her dance with Mark Ballas received a score of 35 out of 40.

NeNe Leakes tied with Davis squarely in the middle of the pack, and could be going home if there aren't enough people voting for her.

Dancing With the Stars season 18 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
