Kate Middleton's wardrobe has cost a surprising $54,000 dollars (£35,000) so far this year, according to a new report Marie Claire U.K.

Prince Charles is picking up the tab for the Duchess of Cambridge's outfits which include custom Alexander McQueen pieces, Jenny Packham gowns and clothes from Reiss , as well as designs from lower-cost brands such as Zara, according to UK Daily Mail. Prince Charles agreed to pay for Kate's wardrobe as long as it's 'work-related' for official functions and engagements.

Kate instructs her private secretary Rebbecca Deacon to buy the dresses for her, according to the UK Daily Mail.

The Duchess of Cambridge pays full prince for her "high-end" custom outfits. The 30 year-old does not accept endorsements of any kind and has reportedly refused hundreds of free dresses by many fashion houses and designers.

Middleton is well known for recycling clothes such as her Emilia Wickstead dress, M Missoni coat dress and LK Bennett heels.
