Agent Marcus Pike (Pedro Pascal) is set to pop the question during the season 6 finale, according to TV Guide, but whether or not Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) chooses to accept his proposal is another mystery entirely.

Titled "Blue Birds," the upcoming season finale could turn out to be a series finale if The Mentalist fails to receive a renewal this May. Bearing this in mind, it is beginning to look as if there is a very real possibility that fans will never get to see a romantic relationship between Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) and Lisbon.

Unless either Jane or Lisbon objects to Pike's proposal, that is.

Ever since the Art Squad agent entered Lisbon's life, Jane has appeared visibly uncomfortable with their relationship. However, it is unclear whether or not this is for romantic reasons or if it is because he simply misses the platonic attention he received as Lisbon's closest confidant.

"I think Jane was feeling curiously like a third wheel [at the end of "Violets"] - something he doesn't feel very often - and wondering why he felt that way," said executive producer Tom Szentgyorgyi, according to TV Line. "Pike is with us through the end of the season, and he will become a increasingly important figure in Lisbon's life, so Jane is wondering what he's feeling, because he's been the most important man in Lisbon's life - and suddenly he might not be."

No matter what the final outcome is between Pike and Lisbon, series creator Bruno Heller informed TV Guide that it will be a "romantic finale rather than a [suspenseful] finale."

Hopefully this means viewers will get some sort of definitive answer regarding Lisbon's love life before the start of the summer hiatus.
