Next week, Isaiah Washington will reprise his role as Dr. Preston Burke on Grey's Anatomy and if the episode is anything like the actor describes it, it will be an epic moment for the show.

"It's going to blow your mind. You are not ready," Washington said at this year's WonderCon over the weekend. "It is cold-blooded."

"When I read it, I said like, 'Now what?'" he added. "I want to know how the world is going to respond to May 1."

Dr. Cristina Yang's Goodbye Details with Owen and Preston

Washington's return comes seven years after his character was written out on the season 3 finale in 2007 when Preston left Cristina at the altar. He was let go from the ABC show that season after he allegedly used a homophobic slur to refer to his former and openly gay costar T.R. Knight. Now, Washington will reappear to wrap up the storyline of Dr. Cristina Yang, played by Sandra Oh.

"It's important to me that Cristina's journey unfolds exactly as it should," executive producer Shonda Rhimes said in a statement. "Burke is vital to that journey - he gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang."

At WonderCon, Washington praised Rhimes and her creative mind, as well as his co-star Oh, whom he called "one of the most extraordinary talents" he has ever worked with.
