American Idol put their Top 6 performers to the test on Monday night, challenging them to compete in both the country and rock genres.

Now that the judges only Save has been used up, the final six hopefuls had no safety net as they step out of their comfort zones on Wednesday.

Jena Irene

The Incubus and Paramore fan kicked off the evening with her rock requirement and won the judges over with her rendition of Heart's Barracuda. Irene's country performance didn't receive quite as stellar reviews, however, at least not from Harry Connick Jr.

Sam Woolf

Woolf lucked out o April 3 when he Jenifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Connick felt he was good enough to warrant a Save, and the Florida native proved them right on Wednesday. The 18-year-old wowed the judges with Shania Twain's You're Still The One and Imagine Dragons' every-popular It's Time.

CJ Harris

Repeatedly pushed into the Bottom 3, Harris needed a killer song to help him move past the Top 6. Unfortunately, his renditions of the Zac Brown Band's Whatever It Is and The Guess Who's American Woman failed to receive accolades from the judges' table.

Alex Preston

A fan favorite, Preston has mixed success with Willie Nelson's Always on My Mind and Neon Tree's Animal. Oddly enough, Preston managed to rock his country act while falling short in the modern pop department.

Caleb Johnson

Johnson has never fallen into the Bottom 3, and it doesn't look like he will be making a stop there this week. Although Johnson's country performance turned out to be mediocre, the singer's take on The Black Crowes' Sting Me left Lopez, Urban, and Connick in awe.

Jessica Meuse

A member of last weeks Bottom 2, Meuse fell flat once more during the Top 6 performances. While she received praise for her vocals on both her performances, Urban was not a fan of the arrangement used on Dolly Partons' Jolene and Connick was unimpressed by Meuse's dancing during Jefferson Airplane's Somebody to Love.

American Idol will return on Thursday with a results show at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
