There has been some talk speculation the mystery of Bombur in the Mirkwood scene and what happens to him in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug but it seems like it the issue might finally be resolved in the extended cut in the Blu-Ray and DVD of the film.

In a recent update revealed by new photos which surfaced on theonering.net showing Bombur being carried through Mirkwood by the hobbits has brought the discrepancy of that storyline in the book vs. how it was dealt with on film. Yahoo.com believes that was one of the main criticisms of the film, the fact that the Bombur scene was cut from the film but that these images suggest that the scene might play out in DVD version of the film or maybe it's bonus segment.

The DVD and Blu-Ray released on April 8. The film is available in a variety of packages which will also feature a limited collector's edition set for $105.43, a Blu-ray 3-D combo pack for $44.95, a Blu-ray combo pack for $35.99 and a 2-disc DVD special edition for $28.98.

Only 25,000 pieces of the collector's edition will be available in the U.S. and will include two Gates of Erebor replica bookends and a theatrical version of the film in 3-D high-definition, high-definition and standard definition.

The last film in the trilogy, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, will hit theaters on December 18.
