Fans might not have to wait so long for more Sherlock as once thought, per one of the show's stars, Martin Freeman.

Tom Hiddleston Ready To Sign On As Third Holmes Brother In Season 4?

Freeman, who plays John Watson on Sherlock, spoke with Alan Carr on a recording of the talk show Chatty Man and revealed that there could be a one-off special for the series.

"[Showrunner] Mark Gatiss may beat me up, but there is an idea for this one-off special that's such a good idea, and as I was listening to it I thought 'we've just got to do this'. And I don't know when we are going to be able to do it, unfortunately."

Moriarty's Message To U.K. Further Explored in Season 4?

He noted that the one-off special is "a fantastic, really mouth-watering idea. But I really don't know when we are going to get to do it."

Freeman has been very open about the fact that Sherlock might not have a fourth season for a while. He told Digital Spy recently that there were plans to film the fourth season after he finished up his run as Richard III in London's West Side, but those plans have since been squashed.

Freeman's co-star Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the titular character on Sherlock, even said that he doesn't even know if a fourth season is in the works at all.

However, executive producer Steven Moffat has said that a fourth season is a go and will likely air in 2016, though a specific air date has not been announced (or likely discussed at all).
