It appears that the relationship between Damon and Elena will intensify on the next episode of The Vampire Diaries.

Thursday's episode will "purposefully throw them in a world together where they can't help but literally be on top of each other - the cabin in the woods story," the show's executive producer Caroline Dries told TVLine.com.

"They can't be away from each other, they can't be close to each other," she added. "So we're playing into the drama of this weird purgatory in their relationship. How will they act when they can't escape each other?"

Damon and Elena heated up again after she confessed her love for him in a recent episode, but it's not necessarily a good thing.

"They have to put on their big-boy pants and big-girl pants," Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon, said about their characters at the 2014 PaleyFest Panel. Nina Dobrev, aka Elena, added: "The problem is they keep taking their pants off and that keeps getting in the way of things."

This is also a bit weird for Damon's brother, Stefan, who was once romantically involved with Elena.

"Those two are like perpetually a pendulum that swings. There's really no algorithm," Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, recently told E! Online. "I don't think anything that happens is permanent, so the answer to that question is that I'm sure they'll work it out in the end."

Wesley also recently revealed that his character has "made peace" with Damon and Elena's current relationship, but it doesn't mean he's completely cut his ex-love out of the equation. "There are always residual feelings with anyone that you're ever with romantically," he told TVLine.
