Fox has officially cancelled Almost Human, ending the show after only one 13-episode season.

Karl Urban Quitting Television If Almost Human Isn't Renewed

The news was revealed by Deadline late Tuesday night, with Fox finally making their decision on the show, which had been on the bubble for months. There were some rumors from sites like TV Wise that the cult favorite series was close to a renewal, but those did not prove to be true.

Almost Human was a modest hit for Fox since its premiere in Nov. 2013. Though it debuted pretty big with 9.18 million viewers, it ultimately stabilized around 5.5 million, which could still be considered a relative hit.

The Deadline report noted that Fox currently has three new shows that they're betting on going into the 2014-2015 TV season. They are Gotham, the highly buzzed about Batman prequel, The Red Band Society, a coming of age drama about a group of friends living in a hospital, and Empire, a family drama set in the world of hip hop.

The report says that all three are strong contenders for a pick up for the upcoming TV season. Another factor that potentially impacted Fox's decision to cancel Almost Human was the fact that it was produced by an outside studio, Warner Bros. TV. While Fox already has The Following, which is produced by Warner Bros. TV, the studio also has Gotham, and Almost Human may have made for too many shows produced by an outside studio for Fox.
