After both the viewers and critics heaped praise on the first season of True Detective, fans are already jonesing for another chapter of the philosophically wrought mystery maze.

Story Won't Be A Murder Mystery This Time Around?

There has been a lot of speculation and rumor about what's coming up next and what web creator Nic Pizzolato will spin this time around. While the writer of the show has been mostly tight-lipped he did drop a weighty bit of information in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in March.

"I am still fleshing it out. The basic idea: Hard women, bad men, and the secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system," he said. "I was well on my way in the writing but there's been a lot noise and work around the end of the first season that got in the way."

True Detective Creator Says 'Casting Is Its Own Issue?'

So while some of the details are self evident we also gather that makybe this time around there is a chance that the leading pair of detectives might be the "hard women" Pizzolato speaks of.

Interestingly enough, while Brad Pitt is being championed for the part of male lead in the second season, there are a bunch of reckon-able female actors who are apparently up for consideration too.

Enstars reported that Kate Mara and Ellen Page have also been added in the stars being considered for roles and now it seems like Emma Stone has gone and upped the competition by stating that she would be very keen on nabbing a part in the HBO mini-series second cycle. In an interview with Vogue, Stone was also clear about who she'd like for a partner, Kristen Wiig is her pick.

"That would be amazing. I would do True Detective with Kristen Wiig in a heartbeat," she told the publication when asked if she would be interested in working on it.

In an interview with Buzzfeed, Pizzolato also revealed that the second season will be set in Southern California. But what is more interesting is that the creator told The Wrap that the story might not be a murder mystery, although it will follow a similar plot of detective after an elusive criminal.

The first season of the show which was a critical success starred Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey in the lead roles as a pair of detectives who return to an unsolved case about a ritualistic serial killer after around a decade.

The first season of the series was was directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga.
