Just like many fans, boxing legend Muhammad Ali is patiently waiting for one particular fight – Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao On Mayweather: "I Want That Fight"

The 72-year-old took to Twitter to congratulate Mayweather on his recent win against Marco Maidana adding, “Maybe after you rest up we can see you rumble with @MannyPacquiao!” Ali's words have been retweeted over 28,000 times.

This is a match many boxing fans hope to see. Yet, Mayweather famously said that he’d fight Pacquiao only if the Filipino boxer parted ways with promoter Bob Arum and his promotional company Top Rank. According to Pacquiao, who recently beat Timothy Bradley in their April rematch, says these are just excuses.

Floyd Mayweather's Father Thinks Manny Pacquiao Should Fight His Son

"The truth is, he doesn't have interest in fighting me," Pacquiao told The Los Angeles Times. "It's not about the promoter."

The boxer's publicist Fred Sternburg also added, "Two fighters who want to fight each other have never been kept from fighting each other."

In the meantime, Mayweather beat Maidana by majority decision on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas allowing him to remain undefeated. The 37-year-old won with 116-112 and 117-111 on two scoreboards while the other was 114-114. However, many, including Maidana, feel that Mayweather shouldn’t have been crowned the winner.

"I definitely think I won this fight," Maidana said after the match, according to CBS Sports. "He did dominate some rounds, but the majority of them, I dominated.

He added, “ I have to give him a rematch because I won the fight."
