When Kerry Washington and husband Nnamdi Asomugha welcomed their daughter Isabelle Amaruchi a few weeks ago, the couple were able to keep the news a secret thanks to close family and friends.

According to People magazine, only the couple's closest family, friends and Scandal cast mates received an email, not too long after the birth.

"Isabelle is here," the message read to close ones.

Sources said that Washington was overjoyed with the baby's arrival that she couldn't wait.

"Kerry spent the last couple of weeks before baby really hunkering down and getting ready," a source said. "She's so very excited."

With barely no free time to respond and thank all of those who sent their congratulations, Washington is enjoying being a new mom.

"Kerry is at home busy with the baby," another source revealed, adding, "She hasn't sent pictures or invited anyone to see her yet, but mom and baby are doing well."

"Kerry has always wanted to have children. She's nurturing and she's a natural caretaker. Plus she's hilarious! Their little girl will definitely have a sense of humor," the source said.

This is the first child for Washington and her husband Nnamadi Asomugha. The couple wed during a secret ceremony on June 24, 2013.

Back in February, Washington celebrated her baby's arrival during a baby shower and was surrounded by 50 of her closest female family members and friends, which included actresses Jane Fonda, Cecily Tyson, Tracee Ellis Ross and Scandal co-stars, Darby Stanchfield, Katie Lowes, as well as her in-laws.
