The Mentalist is bringing the Teresa Lisbon and Patrick Jane's burgeoning romance to a boil in the season finale, but someone is standing in their way - and it's not Agent Pike.

Simon Baker & Robin Tunney Dish On Characters' 'Lonely' Nature, Will 'Mentalist' Finale Push Them Together?

It is Jane (Simon Baker).

The faux psychic has been described as a "broken toy," to broken inside to chance making himself even more vulnerable. Instead of confessing his feelings to Lisbon (Robin Tunney), Jane is letting her slip further and further from his side. When "Blue Birds" airs this Sunday, it looks like the sandy-haired mentalist will have to try and put it all on the line.

According to series creator Bruno Heller, this step will be far from easy for the long-time friends.

"If you spent so much of your life self-protectively concealing your feelings, for very good reasons, and feel that it was your love that essentially killed other people in your life, that connection to you has been a bad thing, there are all kinds of fears deep down that would stop you from speaking honestly," Heller explained to TV Line. "Men in general have difficulty declaring their emotions, and in this case [Jane and Lisbon] had a long and close, brother-sister relationship, so to suddenly declare a different kind of love is extremely difficult."

Even if The Mentalist embraces its viewers' love of the Jisbon ship, there is ever possibility that Jane's emotional state could rip them apart as soon as they start.

The Mentalist airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. Click the video below to see a preview of the season finale, "Blue Birds."
