American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy has revealed some new details into the upcoming fourth season, which is titled Freak Show.

Murphy spoke with Entertainment Weekly Radio about his new HBO film The Normal Heart, but he also teased a few details for American Horror Story Season 4.

"I'm so excited for Freak Show," Murphy said. In fact, his excitement over the new concept is what led him to decide to direct the first episode of the season. Murphy has not directed any episodes of the series other than the pilot episode of the first season.

He describeed Freak Show as a "super scary thrill ride" that is also "about something. It's about a group of people . . . who are the last existing freak show in America."

The freak show is set in Jupiter, Fla. and the various "freaks" in the troupe are "desperate to stay together," Murphy teased.

The season will focus on the conflict between the freaks and the "evil forces" who do not understand them.

Most intriguingly, Murphy teased that Sarah Paulson's character will be a particularly significant one.

The producer claimed that Paulson's new character is "the most challenging character I've ever created. I'm nervous for Sarah." He noted that there will be "physical rigors" that she has to go through.

Freak Show features Jessica Lange's character as the owner of the freak show, which features characters played by Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Evan Peters and Frances Conroy.

American Horror Story: Freak Show premieres in fall 2014 on FX, though the network has not yet announced a specific air date.
