American Idol said goodbye to Alex Preston on Thursday as the series narrowed down their contestants to the Final Two.

'The Voice' Results Season 6 Top 5

Preston has never been at the bottom of the pack, and the singer shockingly found himself in the Bottom 2 following his Top 3 performance. Each competitor was required to take on three new songs (one chosen by Randy Jackson, one selected by the judges, and one voted on by their home town) on Wednesday night, and Preston failed to impress America with her performances.

For his Top 3 performances, Preston's 's renditions of Bastille's Pompeii (see viedo below) and Rihanna's Stay managed to impress the judges, Preston received mixed criticism regarding his work on One Direction's Story of My Life.

While Meuse certainly received the worst news of the evening, Caleb Johnson and Jena Irene were undoubtedly crossing their fingers and toes as American Idol prepared to head into the finals. Luckily for Johnson and Irene, their Top 3 performances managed to impress voters enough to keep him alive for another week.

Next week, Idol's Final 2 - Irene and Johnson - will go head-to-head in the final battle of the season. With the title almost within reach, American Idol will return Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox with the finale.
