Sherlock fans waiting for Season 4 might not have to wait as long for a release date, according to new comments by series co-creator Mark Gatiss.

Sherlock Holmes To Grow More 'Human' in Season 4?

On the BAFTA red carpet recently, Gatiss spoke with RadioTimes.com about the fourth season of the popular British series, revealing that a confirmed date could come soon.

The producer said he and fellow producer Steven Moffat have "moved significantly closer to getting a date in the diary for series four."

As noted by RadioTimes, it has been a mystery as to when Season 4 will actually air, though producer Sue Vertue said earlier in 2014 that "We're working on it. We're working on dates," Moffat added, "We'll get them made as quickly as we can."

He noted: "Benedict [Cumberbatch] and Martin [Freeman] are making some movies," before quipping, "If you say 'Who cares about movies?' I agree with you but they are doing them so we've got to schedule around that."

The production and release date of Sherlock's fourth season has been up in the air since Season 3 ended in January. With the show's stars Cumberbatch and Freeman putting out several big movies lately, it is becoming increasingly difficult for everyone to get together and film a new season.

Neither of the stars have been positive about when the series will be filmed. Freeman said that filming has been delayed even more while Cumberbatch said he didn't even know if there was going to be a season 4.
