Andy Griffith Hospitalized: Television Legend Helped by Emergency Medical Crew

Update: Andy Griffith has died.

Andy Griffith was rushed to the hospital early Tuesday, according to TMZ.

The 86-year-old television legend was taken to a North Carolina hospital after an emergency medical crew arrived at his house, according to the report.

So far, there are no details of his illness.

Griffith is best known for his lead character in "The Andy Griffith Show" in the 60s.

He is also a Southern-gospel singer and won a Grammy Award in 1997 for his album "I Love to Tell the Story."

In 2005, U.S. President George W. Bush gave him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
