As season 5 of The Good Wife just wrapped on May 18, showrunners, Robert and Michelle King, spoke about what's lined up for the next season in a recent interview.

Cary Will 'Push Things In An Odd Direction' With Kalinda As Their Relationship Is Tested?

While the finale of the CBS legal drama focussed on many things, one of the important storylines that was teased out and will be be picked up in the next season related to the big changes afoot in Diane's (Christine Baranski) career. Diane was being asked to run for State's Attorney amidst all the chaos and office politics at Lockhart/Gardner where the partners have been contriving to kick her out of the firm and take over after Will's (Josh Charles) death. Towards the end of the episode, with Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) by her side, Diane decided to make a big move, and asks Florrick/Agos if she could join them.

In a recent E!Online interview, Robert and Michelle talked about Diane's motivations and also if Kalinda would switch firms with her.

Alicia Will Run For State's Attorney As Show Becomes More Political?

"Diane-ever since Will's death, we've been playing as a real punch to the gut. As most people have had a love one die close to them or a major disaster, she begins to question what she's about, what she's doing," Robert said. "Where we're kind of heading is toward her taking on some of the characteristics of Will. In many ways, she didn't have to be the tough fighter because she had Will. Without Will, she's taking on some of his characteristics."

As Robert added that they wanted to make Diane "more ballsy in her choices," Michelle also reiterated the impact of Will's death on Diane.

"Diane is unique in the sense that she's not only changed internally by Will's death, but then there are external circumstances changed dramatically also," she said. "She is the one that really has to fight back. "

Finally when asked if the ever loyal Kalinda will actually join Florrick/Agos with Diane, Robert responded in the affirmative.

"Yes," he said, "The relationship between those two is just too pure and too great not to continue."

This would be an interesting move for Kalinda as in the finale, another development related to Cary's (Matt Czuchry) finding out that she has been manipulating him for information.

The highlight of the finale was Eli Gould (Alan Cumming) proposing Alicia (Julianna Margulies) becomea candidate for State's Attorney. The cliffhanger obviously had to do with the big decision Alicia will have to take now.

The finale, titled A Weird Year, aired on May 18.
