There has never been a series reboot quite like Girl Meets World, which is based on the 1990s ABC hit Boy Meets World. With seven seasons, Boy Meets World ran on ABC from 1993-2000, following the lives of young friends Corey Mathews (Ben Savage), Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong), and Corey's girlfriend/wife Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel) into adulthood.

The Disney Channel's revival of the characters comes as the television sequel Girl Meets World, following Corey and Topanga as they live in New York, trying to raise their daughter Riley (Rowan Blanchard).

While spin-offs tend to receive a critical reaction from viewers, nostalgic children of the 1990s eagerly await the new series, which premieres this June. There will be some reoccurring chapters, including guests appearances by Rider Strong and William Daniels, who played the wise Mr. Feeny who taught Corey and his friends in the original show.

There will also be some new characters introduced, most notably Riley and her best friend Maya Fox, played by Sabrina Carpenter. In a recently released clip from Girl Meets World, in which Corey lectures Maya on her behavior, viewers cannot help but see a young Shawn Hunter in the little girl's bruised gaze.

Shawn was known on Boy Meets World as Corey's loyal friend, who struggled living with his father in a trailer park. Maya, who declares in the clip that she has no one to help her with schoolwork, runs off in a fit of pure, unbridled Shawn Hunter angst. She even dresses in a similar green jacket.

While Maya has not been announced as Shawn's daughter, audiences might not be able to help but wonder if maybe there is a distant relation somewhere in there. It would certainly make for an interesting plot twist in a show that already possess a loyal built-in following.
