Now come the juicy bits about the plot. Whannell revealed that third film will not be based around the Lambert family. But that does not mean that this sequel will be completely disconnected from the first two films, as the writer also added that this one will be "a lot more like part one than part two."

Wan, who is currently directing Fast and Furious 7, has given his blessings to the project and even stated via Twitter that the third film will be better than the first two under Whannell's direction.

Insidious: Chapter 2 was released on Sept. 13 and topped the U.S. box office scoring $41.1 million over in its opening weekend. The film stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins, and Barbara Hershey reprised their roles from  the first film in the series.

Steven Schneider, Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Peter Schlessel, Lia Buman and Xavier Marchand will come on board as executive producers.
