The NBC variety competition America's Got Talent returned in May 2014 for it's ninth season with some good natured shenanigans. The show's host, Nick Cannon, went onstage disguised as "Larry the Mime" and gave the judges a rather bizarre performance. They quickly eliminated him from the competition and "Larry" promptly turned to insulting them.

9-year-old Pianist Could Win America's Got Talent?

Just as the judges prepared to call security, Cannon revealed himself and the show cut to footage of Cannon preparing for the role with prosthetics and makeup. Everyone, including the previously offended judges, had a good laugh as a result.

Cannon is no stranger to comedic skits. He got his start as a kid on Nickelodeon's All That, a comedy-sketch program for kids comparable to SNL. In fact, SNL's Kennan Thompson also got his start on the show, as did Amanda Bynes.

Safety Concerns on America's Got Talent?

Since All That, Cannon has come a long way, performing as a comedian and a few dramatic films before getting the gig on AGT. He married Mariah Carey in 2008 and have twins, Moroccan and Monroe.

With Cannon's background and the success as "Larry the Mime" on the AGT premiere, will the host try it again? The element of surprise is gone, but on a show that loves to laugh, there is always room to change things up.

Developing a rapport between the host and judges is key on any competition program, and a good sense of humor goes a long way.
