After the dramatic events of The Big Bang Theory Season 7 finale, Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) will have to deal with his emotions as things around him continue to change.

Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) informed Sheldon of their engagement at the end of the sitcom's seventh season, and with it, revealed that Leonard would be moving out of the apartment. This news shook Sheldon to the core, prompting him to get on a train and flee the city.

The Big Bang Theory executive producer Steve Molaro recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about Sheldon and the decision to bring him to the breaking point in the finale.

Molaro said that the goal of the finale was to "chip away at Sheldon and break him down to the point where he just needed to leave to process everything."

He added:

"If you look at the history of the show over the past seven years, they've all changed quite a bit ... Our goal is usually to have the characters grow, but still let them be the characters. There's a line to walk."

Molaro said that while the writers are not yet back to work on the upcoming eighth season of the sitcom, he promises that Sheldon will be affected by Leonard's move, though he would not say that he would be changed by it.

The Big Bang Theory Season 8 premieres in fall 2014 on CBS, moving to Mondays at 8 p.m. for a few months before going back to its regular Thursdays at 8 p.m.
