The actor was spotted back in Los Angeles following his humiliating directorial debut at the famed film festival on May 31, and once again, his girlfriend of three years. Place Beyond the Pines co-star Eva Mendes, was nowhere in sight.

According to Celebuzz, the actor was spotted leaving a business meeting, and received a slightly awkward hug from the man he had met with afterwards.

It is unclear what the meeting was about, and if his personal life and potential split were brought up, prompting the hug, though the actor is known for keeping his private life away from the cameras as best he can.

Fans expected to see Gosling and Mendes together at Cannes for the first screening of his directorial debut, Lost River, which Mendes starred in, but shocking everyone, she never showed at the festival, leaving her boyfriend (and rumored fiancé) alone to face a critical firing squad.

The film met mostly unfavorable reviews, though his Drive director, Nicholas Winding Refn, has come to his defense.

"I think it's a beautiful, beautiful, great movie that will grow on people. There are images from it that still stuck with me," he told New York Magazine. "Because we're twins we make the same movie. Separated at birth, we found each other. That's the thing about twins. We stick together."

Though Refn has defended him, Mendes has not only remained mum, but completely out of sight from the press and fans, further fanning the rumors that she and Gosling have split for good this time.

The couple hasn't been photographed together since November 2013.
