As Stephanie Smith, the New York Post reporter and 300 Sandwiches blogger, finally got her boyfriend, Eric Schulte, to go down on one knee by the time she got to the 257 sandwich, most would assume that the project was up but that is not exactly the case.

Writing about her experience after making the 257th sandwich as part of her project to win over the love of her life, and him proposing to her before she got to the 300 they had decided on, Smith suggested that her fiance still deserved the remaining 43 sandwiches even though she had gotten to her goal.

"I still plan on getting to No. 300 for Eric. He deserves those 43 sandwiches. Not just because he proposed, but because while I'm making them, he shows me how to really enjoy life," she wrote.

In September last year, Smith wrote about her plight -- which she seems to have embraced without any resistance -- of committing to make 300 sandwiches to get engaged to her boyfriend. Schulte, who is also a gourmet cook, had jokingly suggested if she were to make him 300 sandwiches, she'd earn an engagement ring.

Smith's New York Post piece, 'I'm 124 sandwiches away from an engagement ring,' also invited a lot of negative attention from the press.

Smith wrote the piece for the Post after she was done making 176 sandwiches, with 124 to go. She is documenting the exercise on her blog, 300sandwiches.
