Falling Skies' Matt Mason is no longer a helpless child, and the youngest of Tom's boys will have to fend for himself through the beginning of season 4.

Who Survives The 'Falling Skies' Premiere? Check Out New Espheni Weapons & Devastated 2nd Mass In Sneak Peek

An attack on the 2nd Mass during "The Ghost In The Machine" will leave the 14-year-old fighter on his own from the jump (see video below). Picked up by alien forces and deposited in a Hitler Youth type institution, Matt (Maxim Knight) will have his first real chance to experience the type of leadership roles his family is known for.

"Matt gets his own story line, but it is temporary," Knight explained to Three If By Space. "We find him in a World War 2 style youth camp run by the Espheni and early on Matt gets a love interest. It's very interesting because I got to flex some leader acting. I got to play the role of a leader which was new and interesting."

What Will Transform Hal Mason On 'Falling Skies'? Drew Roy Character Possible Victim Of Human Skiterization?

Although he is a Mason through and through, Matt will not be taking his cues from Tom (Noah Wyle) this time around. Instead, the youngster will be looking to Captain Weaver (Will Patton) for advice.

"He falls under the wing of Captain Weaver. Matt continues to express leadership traits, but he follows the leadership that Weaver puts upon him," Knight said. "Tom has never really been Matt's father because he is always so busy as a leader. Matt wants to learn about war and how to be a good soldier and Weaver does that for Matt. We help each other through emotional phases."

Do you think Matt will be able to take on the same leadership pressures as Tom, Hal (Drew Roy), and Ben (Connor Jessup)? Sound off in the poll below.
