Everyone's been speculating about True Detective's second season on HBO, but creator Nick Pizzolatto says not a single rumor out there is true.

True Detective Scrambling To Create 'Compelling' 2nd Season?

It is believed that casting for the show will be completed at the end of the month. Pizzolatto insists it hasn't even started. Aside from the storyline's location, California, and the fact that there will be three leads, two male and one female, HBO has not formally released any details and Pizzolatto would like to keep it that way.

"I've seen entertainment reporters say 'My sources say...' There are no sources," Pizzolatto said to the Calgary Herald during a press conference at the Banff World Media Festival. "There's me and two other guys and they don't even know what I'm doing."

In terms of casting, Pizzolatto was firm in declaring that no decisions have been made. "I've talked to one person about it, possibly," he explained, "And that has been it. We haven't cast anybody. I have a secret list and that's it."

While Pizzolatto might think nothing of it, claiming to have a "secret" wish list of performers is enough to send audiences and media outlets clamoring for clues. It is always possible that Pizzolatto won't get his dream cast, but with the acclaim the show received during the first season, it seems unlikely.

True Detective has become, in fact, a big deal and even if Pizzolatto manages to uproot rumors, more are likely to just grow back in their place.

The series is set to return to HBO in January 2015.
