Congratulations are in order for Mel B! The former Spice Girls singer and current America's Got Talent judge was just announced as the newest British X Factor judge for 2014.

Simon Cowell Defends One Direction After Leaked Video

Although fans seemed split on Twitter, at least one person was confident in the decision: Mr. Simon Cowell.

"Mel B was Simon's number one choice for the final place on the panel, he was really impressed when they met up and he likes her style and what she was saying she can bring to the show in their meeting," a source told The Mirror. "She is certainly not a shrinking violet and will say exactly what she thinks. She will stir things and be up for a laugh, which is important.

Mel B joins Cheryl Cole, Louis Walsh and Cowell. "I'm so excited. I've always thought honesty is the best policy when being a judge," Mel B said, "that's what I'm going to bring more of."

Cowell also seemed publicly pleased with his decision calling Mel B, "feisty, opinioned and a good mentor." Although Cole hasn't publicly commented, a source said that Cowell asked the singer about Mel B before hiring her. "Mel was Simon's choice but he did ask Cheryl's opinion and they both think she is a good choice." Last season, former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger served on the judging panel along with Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh. Cowell had also been judging the US version of X Factor until it was canceled this year.
