"Just to clear up some rumors... There is absolutely NO indication that I am going to 'Y&R' to play Adam Newman," Mathison wrote on Twitter. "Thanks for all the support tho."

Many fans responded to Mathison's tweet and expressed their disappointment. Yet, the former All My Children actor revealed that he's open to taking a similar role one day. "Maybe I'll return to daytime tv sometime but no plans right now," he responded to one fan.

Fans Outraged By Adam Newman Recast Rumors

The Young and the Restless producers have reportedly been on the hunt to replace Michael Muhney, who was fired from the series in December. The actor, who played Adam Newman since 2009, allegedly groped his co-star, Hunter King, according to TMZ.

Muhney spoke about his departure with Huffington Post Canada TV that month and revealed what he believes is the real reason.

"Part of me feels this is because I've always been outspoken, and sometimes I've been too outspoken. Sometimes I've walked around with a big backpack full of hubris. That is entirely on me," he said. "If I'm going to claim to be a grown man, I have to own that. But it could be financial or story. It was explained to me that CBS and Sony want to give Adam a break for 3-6 months and then they'll bring him back with a different actor."
