The incident occurred in Los Angeles where Ballas was making a right-turn when a driver behind him did not stop in time and rammed his car into the back of Ballas' car, according to TMZ. His girlfriend took him to the hospital after he was experiencing whiplash and back pain. Doctors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center prescribed pain medication and told him that the pain would get worse tomorrow.

Ballas was slated to perform this week with a guitar but it is not clear if he will be able to in his condition.

An eyewitness at the scene of the incident said that it was not Ballas' fault and that the other car was speeding, though the five people in the other car believed that it was indeed the dancer's fault.

Ballas has not had good luck lately, with this incident following an injury sustained in the final week of Dancing With the Stars this spring. Ballas was rehearsing for the finals with his celebrity partner Candace Cameron Bure when he injured one of his shoulders. He ultimately pushed through the pain and continued competing. The couple wound up coming in third place.

Dancing With the Stars Season 19 premieres this fall on ABC, though the network has not yet announced a specific air date. Assuming it goes with the regular fall schedule, it will likely return in mid-September. The long-running reality series is returning to its regular Mondays at 8 p.m. timeslot.
