Disney princesses sometimes inspire glamorous fashion, but now thanks to Angelina Jolie, the villainous Maleficent is a style muse.

Other Disney villains radiate couture, like Cruella De Vil who personalized the classic black and white color scheme by adding red lips and gloves. De Vil even donned a long cigarette holder before Audrey Hepburn's famous pose with one in Breakfast At Tiffany's.

Maleficent's notorious dark look from the Disney animated classic Sleeping Beauty, casts a spell of elegance but since Jolie's representation of her in the recent film release -- she's a fashion icon.

"She just terrified me, and yet I was extremely drawn to her," said Jolie explaining her fascination for Maleficent to Elle magazine.

Although there were alterations made to the original look, the actress embodied the hypnotizing power of the "Mistress of All Evil." The accessories designer for the film told Vanity Fair that her wardrobe was "all feminine and elegant in silhouette, yet powerful and dark in atmosphere."

Jolie's characterization did not wear purple eye shadow, like the animated one. That kind of extreme makeup was left behind for the film so Jolie could stress emotions on her face without purple overload.

"We really wanted to find a balance so it was kind of an enhanced face," said Jolie in an interview reported by HitFix.

Her sultry look in the film inspired Mac's current "Maleficent" collection, which highlights crimson lips and smoky eyes-still so villainous.

Designers have created subtle spins that channel her ethereal presence. Long chic dresses featured in Vogue's "11 gowns Maleficent would love," from Vivienne Westwood to Alexander McQueen, emphasize Maleficent's confidence and theatrical energy.

And her sinister style has also encouraged daring commercial looks in the new "Maleficent" apparel line at Hot Topic, with high collar dresses and hooded capes.

From thorns, dragons, feathers and darkness-Maleficent's look is wicked.
