Where there is a Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), somewhere there is surely a decaying portrait to match. With only two episodes left in the first season of Showtime's Penny Dreadful, will audiences get a sneak peak at the aged Dorian Gray before the season finale?

Vanessa Ives' Possession Too Much For Victor Frankenstein On Penny Dreadful?

Dorian's hidden portrait was first introduced on the series through a hidden passageway in the man's massive home. Dorian sat down in a chair and stared at the picture for a long time, though viewers did not get a glimpse of the image itself.

Then, last Sunday in episode eight, viewers got a taste of what the painting means to Dorian. He stood before it, scratches across his body and face, and the wounds healed as if by magic. Or something darker. Even with this scene, however, the portrait itself was not revealed.

Is Mina Harker Doomed On Penny Dreadful?

Dorian's portrait is described in Oscar Wilde's classic novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, but will Penny Dreadful try to translate that image to the screen? In the novel, Dorian remains young as his own portrait ages in his place.

Penny Dreadful crreator John Logan has already been faithful in bringing Frankenstein's creature to life from the Mary Shelley novel. Dorian's infamous aging portrait could be next, or showrunners might decide to keep it hidden in order to create a heightened sense of intrigue.

Penny Dreadful continues on Showtime with episode nine, Possession, on Sunday, June 22 at 10 ET/PT.
