For years, members of the entertainment industry have used their position to draw attention to political and social issues across the country. Monday, actress Christina Hendricks (Ginger and Rosa, Drive) utilized her position on AMC's Mad Men to speak against "outdated" policies in America.

The Knoxville, Tenn. native, who plays Joan Harris on the AMC 1960s ad-agency drama, discussed her stance at the White House Summit For Working Families. While Hendricks has made quite a career out of playing Joan on television, she emphasized that modern society should not be so similar to the social and political policies of the past.

Hendricks noted President Obama's Mad Men reference during his 2014 State Of The Union Address in which he claimed that "our current policies seem to be from the Mad Men era."

"In the 21st Century," said Hendricks in Variety, "The only place for a story like Joan's should be on TV."

When Hendricks first took the stage, she played off the interest in Mad Men's carefully guarded final season before easing into her real reason for being there. The actress chose not to talk about the show, instead discussing her character's relationship to modern society with the hope of inspiring change.

The first half of the Mad Men's seventh ended last month with the iconic moon landing.

The remainder of the program's final season will continue with the last few episodes in early 2015.
