The highly anticipated Pitch Perfect 2 comes out next year, and even with production well underway casting surprises continue to thrill audiences.

Elizabeth Banks Releases 'Pitch Perfect 2' Candid Photos From The Set

It was announced yesterday that Danish television star Birgitte Hjort Sorensen will be joining the Pitch Perfect sequel.

Deadline speculated Wednesday that the Danish actress will be part of a rival a cappella group that goes up against the Bellas, though the nature of her role has not been confirmed.

Pitch Perfect 2 Could Eclipse Original Hit

Sorensen is known for playing the title role in the film Marie Kroyer, and most notably for her role on the political drama Borgen. Sorensen recently performed with Tom Hiddleston (Thor) onstage in Coriolanus and will be seen working with Antonio Bandera (Desperado) in Automata within the next few months.

Sorensen's casting comes just weeks after Hailee Seinfeld (True Grit, Ender's Game) joined the film's cast as the latest addition to the a cappella singing group.

The sequel film has been relieving quite a bit of hype ever since it was announced to be in the works. The project is helmed by creator and first-time director Elizabeth Banks (Walk of Shame, The Hunger Games), with most of the original film's cast returning to reprise their roles. Cast and crew have been taking to social media to promote the film through candid set photos and smiling selfies.

Pitch Perfect 2 is set to be released by Universal in May 2015.
