Josh Kaufman might be the first winner of The Voice to break it into the mainstream music world as he's got a very famous friend still by his side. The Season 6 winner of The Voice says that his former judge and coach Usher is still rooting for him to make it big in the entertainment world.

Who Was The Biggest Competition For The Voice Season 6 Competitors?

"Usher and the people that work with him said they want to stay involved with everything that I'm doing moving forward," Kaufman says to the Press of Atlantic City. "It's nice to have someone like that in your corner."

Kaufman also adds that he is still grateful for Usher for giving him a second chance to prove his talents on the show, and that if it weren't for him, he would probably be back at his day time job by now.

Usher Tells Gwen Stefani And Pharrell Williams To "Follow His Lead" For Season 7?

"In that moment when Adam [Levine] didn't pick me, I knew there was a chance I'm done," Kaufman says about how he was close to being cut from the show. "Fortunately Usher was pretty quick to push the button and steal me. I knew I had a second chance, and obviously that worked out pretty well."

Meanwhile, Kaufman, who supports his wife and three children by playing local gigs and working as an SAT prep tutor, is hoping that his newfound fame will allow him to stop tutoring and be a full-time musician. He says he would like his album to have different influential genres mixed together.

"That's going to be at the heart of whatever it is, so I think you can take that and add a pop element," Kaufman adds. "You can add a rock element to that. You can go a lot of different directions, but it is definitely going to be centered on soul."

Season 7 of The Voice is set to debut this fall with returning judges Levine and Blake Shelton along with newcomers Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani, who is sitting in for Christina Aguilera.
