Chloe Sevigny play a transgender Irish assassin in the British mini-series, "Hit & Miss." To get into character, Sevigny admits she had to wear a prosthetic penis.

"Putting [the prosthetic penis on] took two hours," she said, according to reports by the Huffington Post.

"I shaved myself and they had to glue it on, paint it and pull away the skin to make it seamless. It's a tedious process, and it's hard having someone so close to your private parts for an extended period of time who you're not having sex with."

Despite the awkwardness, Sevigny believes it helped her to connect to her character, who transitions from male to female, more.

"Having it on and looking at yourself is oddly disturbing. I felt like a freak," she continued to say. "A lot of transgender people feel like this shouldn't be part of their body, and so I guess it was a good thing. I reacted the way my character would."

Sevigny's role on "Hit & Miss" is not a one-dimensional transgender character. The Irish assassin battles other issues through the 6-part series.

"It's more about her and this family that she kind of falls into, these children she kind of inherits and how she learns to cope with being in a parental role," Sevigny said on a phone interview with The Huffington Post.

Although her role on "Hit & Miss" may be difficult, Sevigny is no stranger to tackling challenging characters.

The actress was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Boys Don't Cry. The film, also starring Hillary Swank, focused on issues of gender identity and sexuality. On HBO's "Big Love," the actress played a sister-wife. And on season 2 of American Horror Story, Sevigny will assume the role of a nymphomaniac.
