Homeland showrunner Alex Gansa has released a slew of new details about the upcoming fourth season, including info on Carrie (Claire Danes) and her new job as Station Chief in the Middle East.

Carrie In An 'Emotional Space' While Balancing Work And Family When Homeland Returns

When viewers see Carrie again in Season 4 of Homeland, six months will have passed since the tumultuous events of the Season 3 finale. She will be in her new job and dealing with problems both personal and professional.

"It's about seeing Carrie Mathison for the first time doing the job she was trained to do - being a case officer in a foreign capital," Gansa explained to Entertainment Weekly in a new report. "We're going to see what an intelligence officer does on the ground. How she recruits assets, how she deals with the foreign government and her country team - the people she works with in the embassy - and the host country's intelligence services. That is a complicated and murky world, one that we hope is filled with intrigue and drama and adventure."

Carrie & Quinn Remaining Allies In Pakistan When Homeland Returns

Asked about a possible romance between Carrie and Quinn (Rupert Friend), Gansa did not confirm or deny anything, saying that he and his fellow writers were toying with the idea.

"However the question is whether Carrie is in any kind of emotional state to be open to a romance of any kind and does Quinn realize that's the case," he noted. "But it's enough to say he watches over her this season because he cares about her so much."

Meanwhile, Season 4 will find Saul (Mandy Patinkin) working in the private sector, as previewed in the Season 3 finale. Gansa pointed out that this will be a role reversal for Saul and Carrie, considering Carrie is now technically above him in the ranks.

As far as any sort of return for Brody (Damian Lewis), who was hanged in Iran in the Season 3 finale, Gansa is not ruling it out. Since he is dead, Brody would potentially be seen in flashback form, though Gansa's comment imply that this isn't on the table for Season 4.

Homeland Season 4 premieres in fall 2014 on Showtime, though the network has not yet announced a specific air date. It will likely be returning to its regular Sundays at 9 p.m. timeslot.
