Many Sons of Anarchy fans lamented the lack of recognition for the show in the recently announced Emmy nominations, but perhaps no one is more upset than its creator, Kurt Sutter.

Kurt Sutter Reveals Which Sons of Anarchy Character Will Be 'Semi-Naked' In Final Season

Sons of Anarchy received a grand total of one nomination for the 2014 Primetime Emmys, in the category of Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for the song Days Are Gone. Sutter spoke with Nikki Finke about the lack of recognition from his peers for the show, admitting that he does get upset when his show and its actors and producers are consistently ignored by the Academy.

"I still suffer the emotional and spiritual depletion every July when Sons of Anarchy gets zero nominations in all major categories," he said. "While other f-ing shows that ran out of story three seasons ago, still get tagged to step up to the show. To explain the feeling, I use an analogy from a part of our lives that probably best describes our industry - high school. Remember when that kid you hated from second period French had that big end of year party? You knew he was a lazy, self-important, pompous douchebag, and yet when you didn't get the invitation, you sobbed into your Members Only jacket and a piece of youthful hope cracked off your soul and fell in dogs---."

Despite his statements, Sutter did acknowledge the solitary Emmy nomination he did receive, though he noted that the music in the series exists "above, beyond and in spite of the show."

Some of the show's actors have been recognized by other awards bodies. Katey Sagal, who plays Gemma on the motorcycle drama, won the Golden Globe in 2010 for Best Actress in a Television Series - Drama. The show itself received a nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Drama by the Television Critics Association Awards in 2010.

Most recently, Maggie Siff, who plays Tara on the series, was nominated for the Critics Choice TV Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She also received a nomination in 2012.

Sons of Anarchy Season 7 premieres in the fall on FX, though the network has not yet made an official announcement on when it will return. It will likely return in September, based on previous seasons.
