Law and Order SVU Season 16 is almost here and showrunner Warren Leight was giving fans some scoop about it on his Twitter account.

On July 13, in honor of fans getting Law and Order SVU trending on Twitter, Leight released a page of dialogue featuring Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Amaro (Danny Pino) from the upcoming season premiere.

When a fan asked if Season 16 of SVU would be the last, Leight said he hoped it wouldn't be for the long running show. "Why? Hope not." Carter Matt also said that the decision to renew the show is out of Leight's hands and completely in NBC's. Creator Dick Wolf addressed earlier this summer whether SVU was in danger of not being renewed.

Wolf also told Digital Spy that Law and Order SVU was never "in crisis" of not being renewed for Season 16.

"There are negotiations every year," he said. "The show after 15 years is very expensive for an hour drama. So the network wanted it back, it was just a question of 'Can we afford to have it back?'"

On September 24, 2014, the opening episode will only be one hour, but will be "packed" for the die-hard viewers. Leight also mentioned that star Hargitay hasn't signed on to direct an episode yet of Law and Order SVU, but they "hope" she will this season, like she did in the previous one.
