In the wake of the controversial Season 6 finale of ABC's Castle, the series' new showrunner is assuring fans that the relationship between Rick (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) will be stronger than ever in Season 7.

Castle was shown in a fiery car crash at the end of Season 6, which was even more tragic due to the fact that he and Beckett were set to get married that day. While many of the show's fans were angered by the ending, new Castle showrunner David Amann told TVLine this week that the show's central relationship would remain in tact.

"We are as committed to their relationship as Castle and Beckett are - they are deeply in love and they have overcome a great many challenges already, so whatever [has happened] is not going to tear them apart," he said. "If anything, it will make them stronger."

Castle creator Andrew W. Marlowe, who served as showrunner for the series' first six seasons, added that the couple would be facing ensuing problems together, not apart.

"We're not looking to significantly alter the trajectory of their relationship or pull the rug out from under the audience," Marlowe assured. "We're looking to open up some really interesting aspects of storytelling for the Castle character, who hasn't been as deeply explored as Beckett over the past six years - and we're really excited by that opportunity."

Castle Season 7 will be premiering Monday, Sept. 29 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
