Free returned to TV. After five years of hosting, what some call the golden era of 106 & Park, she is making a comeback on a new show that deals with relationships instead of music without the beloved "livest audience."

During her time away from the cameras, the Boston native never stopped working. She held down New York radio at Power 105, heated things up at 100.3 The Beat, and reunited with former BET host Big Tigger at WPGC in the District. Still, she's the same down-to-earth, cool-older sister that every female wanted to have in the early 2000's (and that every dude wanted to take home to their mom).

In the newest Enstars Exclusive, our original team caught up with Free to talk about her new gig on Centric's According to Him & Her, her type (or lack thereof), the keys to longevity, possible new music and her feelings on being a part of some of the greatest moments in hip-hop history.

Welcome back to TV, Free.

GP: What have you been up to since 106?

Free: I took a lot of time off from television, but I've been doing radio so I haven't really been gone. But, I also went through a lot. I lost my mom in 2009 and it hit my whole family hard. It took a long time for me to heal, but I've had a good time doing radio. I've had offers to do television in the past, but I chose to do this show because one of the producers of it worked with me on 106 & Park, so I knew I would be comfortable.

Explain the premise of According to Him & Her for those who missed the first few episodes.

The show is about the common struggles we all have in relationships and also discusses things that people question about them. Everyone is in some type of relationship, so everyone will enjoy it. Most of the time, I'm busy laughing because Brian Hooks is fo funny! I'm excited about this gig.

It looks like fun. Has working on a dating show affected your type?

I don't have a type. I think if you have a type you're looking for, you're looking to be disappointed. But, I like a guy that's hard working, smart and God-fearing.

Since the days you hosted 106, there has been a new trend of on-air talent with reality stars and others who already have their own followings. What do you think about it?

I have no opinion. I had no training and I don't think we should pigeonhole anyone. I worked in computer systems and at a law firm before BET, so you never know what someone is capable of doing. I don't look at it that way... I never did TV and I didn't know what I was doing when I started. So I think if you are a reality star or actress, you should try it. No one should ever be afraid to try something new.

Speaking of other avenues, we loved your music! Fighting Temptations is still on my playlist.

Thank you! I never do interviews or much publicity, so people don't know... But I had three record deals before I was even on BET. I was signed to Wyclef Jean and a label in L.A. run by Sylvia Rhone, but 106 & Park took over my life. It's hard to focus on music because the show consumes you, completely. In 2004, my album was supposed to be released but it didn't happen. I still love music and I am still writing and in the studio.

Will you release any new music soon?

When it's the right time I will release it, but yes, I have a few things coming down the hole.

I grew up watching 106 and it played a major part in the careers of Beyoncé, Jay, Kanye, Bow Wow and others, who weren't as successful when you interviewed them. What's it like to see how far they've come?

I watched a lot of people come through 106 & Park. It's beautiful to watch how Ludacris, Ciara, and everyone's career has taken off. It's inspirational.

Aaliyah was also a fan favorite on the show. Now that her biopic is possibly in the works, what do you think of the controversy surrounding it?

That's personal. In this case, I side with the family. Whatever the family wants, I do. I just want to see it done right, so hopefully that will happen.

One of the biggest changes since that time is the power of social media. Do you like having an Instagram and being on Twitter?

It's very interesting and can be weird at times but I appreciate the fact that we can talk to people like that. If you feel uncomforatable, use that block button, but I'll say I do use the follow button more.

Haha! That's good. People really do love you, Free. Since you've had such a great career, what would you say is the key to longevity?

You have to have passion and you have to want it. Don't stop being you. To have longevity, you've got to get up and go for it. You have to keep moving and working, no matter what.
