Entertainment Weekly debuted the first image from Sandler's latest film, Pixels, with a shot of Sandler and his team of misfits heading off to fight the alien hoard.

Pixels starts with aliens attacking Earth because they confuse video games with a declaration of war. President Will Cooper (Kevin James) recruits his childhood best friend and former '80s video game champion, Jules Brenner (Adam Sandler), to pull together a team of the best arcaders and save the world. The feature was inspired by a short film of the same name that hit the web back in 2010 depicting what might happen if New York City was attacked by some very familiar 8-bit characters.

The team includes Michelle Monaghan (True Detective), Gad (Frozen) and Dinklage (Game of Thrones).

Columbus was very high on the film and said the homage to 80s culture is something unique and special. "I feel very fortunate to be able to do a movie that feels extraordinarily original and unique," Columbus said. "It's a little bit of an homage to Ghostbusters and all those great Amblin movies of the eighties, not only the movies that I was involved in like The Goonies and Gremlins, but the movies I loved when I was working there like Back to the Future."

Pixels is currently still in production with a release date of May 15, 2015. The film is expected to have footage shown at San Diego Comic-Con.
