There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the sequel to Transformers 4: Age of Extinction, and the latest rumors suggested that Optimus Prime would die in Transformers 5 as Rodimus takes center stage.

Release Date For Transformers 5 Announced?

But alas, the rumor was completely baseless and started as a hoax stating that Michael Bay had suggested that that would be the case. The parody and humor website, National Report, spurred the prospect of this dramatic turn of events in the franchise. The website lent credibility to the news by quoting Bay, who had actually said no such thing, and fans fell for it.

A lot of reaction poured in via Twitter and other social media outlets, dominated by an angry sentiment, as fans were riled up about plans to do away with Optimus Prime.

Shia LeBeouf And Megan Fox To Return For Transformers: Age of Extinction Sequel?

Earlier this year it had been revealed that Transformers 4: Age of Extinction was only the beginning to a new phase in the series, and a trilogy will be led by Mark Wahlberg. But there seem to have been talk of issues between Bay and Paramount as he has set the condition of working on a passion project, like Pain and Gain from last year, before getting toTransformers 5.

While Age of Extinction slayed at the box office it hasn't been much of a success with critics as it has gotten some pretty bad reviews pointing to a sensory overload with excessive use of technical, CGI mined wizardry and a lack of a strong plot, with the human characters almost rendered meaningless.

Transformers: Age of Extinction hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
