Downton Abbey is expected to return to television in January, and the PBS president made some comments on the show on why it's something to look forward to.

Paula Kerger, the PBS president and CEO, made an appearance at the 2014 TCA summer press tour where she dished on the British drama with some insight on more details that fans can expect to see.

"Downton Abbey is one of those events that I think many people would refer to as lightening in a bottle," Kerger said, published on Zap 2 It on Tuesday. "It's a beautiful series, it hit at just the right time and it captured the public's attention."

The CEO went on about how the show has made an impact with spreading out the drama.

"The thing that we can do is to look at other dramas and, as you know, we've expanded the amount of drama we have on public broadcasting on Sunday nights, is to continue to look for more work like that," Kerger said.

The PBS president then mentioned what the show is meant for and what it's supposed to get people interested in that doesn't just consist of crazy occurrences.

"We try to look at it as part of a whole, of everything that we're doing and looking at it as a way to bring people in," Kerger said. "Not only to introduce them to other drama, but also to get them interested in science and history and other work that we have on public broadcasting that is educational, but that is also entertaining."

Downton Abbey Season 5 is expected to premiere on Sunday, January 4 on PBS.
