Recently, actor Joseph Morgan (Master and Commander, Armistice) opened up about the early interest in vampires and werewolves that led him to the role of Klaus Mikaelson on The CW's The Originals.

'Epic' New Trailer For 'The Originals' Season 2

Morgan posed for Emmy Magazine a few weeks ago, and photographer Amanda Elkins posted the first finished page of that interview, along with the photograph she took, on her website.

While Elkins posted the pic back in June, it has recently picked up a lot of Twitter attention, which is likely a result of the approaching Emmy Awards. Morgan was happy, in turn, to promote Elkin's work through that very same social media tool when he credited her with his new Twitter profile photo.

Actress Claire Holt On Returning To 'The Originals'

Morgan's Emmy Magazine feature, entitled "Delight in the Dark", shows the actor smiling modestly in a golden sweater. "I've always been a bit obsessed with vampires and werewolves and horror in general," he told the magazine, noting that his fascination truly began when he saw the trailer for Interview With A Vampire at the age of 14.

The actor enjoys horror novels as well as filming, worrying on occasion that his interests appear too intentional. "I feel a bit kooky sitting in my cast chair [for The Originals] reading [vampire fiction]," he explained, "I think, 'Am I just a cliché?'"

Regardless of any doubts the actor might have, Morgan has made quite a name for himself playing the complex and perpetually vengeful Klaus, impressing audiences to such an extent during his time on The Vampire Diaries that the network created The Originals as a spin-off series.

According to Morgan, his success in the role is likely to do with his imagination. "All the things you thought were weaknesses," he explained, noting that his "imagination" caused him trouble as a youth, "Become your advantages as you find your place in the world."

The Originals returns to The CW for a second season Monday, October 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
