Country singer Carrie Underwood got her start on Fox's competition series American Idol in 2005, but the Season 4 winner is still waiting to receive unpaid royalties.

Singer Carrie Underwood May Be Preparing To Reveal Details On New Album

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Monday it was requested that a New York federal judge make an early ruling on a case in which Sony Music Entertainment is accused of withholding royalties from American Idol winners and contestants, including Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and Kellie Pickler.

The lawsuit, filed earlier this year, claims that the performers were "cheated" out of unpaid royalties worth at least $10 million for music paid for and downloaded through numerous online channels. Sony filed a motion to have the charges dismissed last month, but was unsuccessful in getting out of the ordeal.

Underwood has not commented on the lawsuit, nor the request for an early decision. The singer has been on the road this summer. Recently she completed the Miranda Lambert duet Somethin' Bad for Lambert's new album Platinum. The two performed the number at a few award shows and festivals in  the spring before taking off on their separate tours.

Last month Underwood announced that she is currently working on a new album with a "different" style, though she has yet to reveal a title or release date. Her last album Blown Away, released in 2012, received high praise from critics and fans alike. As a result, hype has quickly begun to build around Underwood's latest music.

This Friday Underwood will perform at the Grand Ole Opry near her home in Nashville.
