With The Purge: Anarchy having a string run at the box office, it is time for the franchise to shift its focus onto the next installment. But could the next film be giving a previous star a large role?

'The Purge: Anarchy' Spoilers: What Direction Is The Franchise Headed?

We Got This Covered spoke with star Michael K. Williams and writer/director James DeMonaco about The Purge: Anarchy and asked specifically about Williams' character Carmello and whether a sequel centered around him would be on the way.

"Hopefully, that's been the rumor mill, that there's going to be a 3 and that Carmello is going to be at the helm," Williams said. "I think that's a possibility, we'll just have to wait and see."

DeMonaco added that having a movie centered around Carmello was something they were looking at doing, but could not commit to it being the next Purge movie.

"That's the seed that was purposefully planted," DeMonaco said. "I don't know if we'll be lucky enough to do it, but I purposefully planted him in there, and I made sure I got Michael K. Williams who I love. All very purposeful."

DeMonaco has been on the record before saying that he wanted to focus more on the social commentary in the next Purge and allowing for the underground leader Carmello to take center stage would go along with those claims. Not to mention, Williams has gave one of the better performances in the franchise in Anarchy.

The Purge: Anarchy is currently in theaters and is directed by DeMonaco from his own script. The film stars Frank Grillo.
