Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) will be getting a new job in the upcoming eighth season of The Big Bang Theory, and it may cause some tension with her fiancé Leonard (Johnny Galecki).

After Penny decided in Season 7 that she did not need an acting career to be happy, she will be perusing a career in another field in Season 8. The Big Bang Theory executive producer Chuck Lorre spoke with press at the Television Critics Association press tour Wednesday and discussed Penny's new life path.

"Penny has an interesting arc this year where she puts acting down," Lorre revealed, per The Hollywood Reporter. "She gets a shot to be a pharmaceutical rep at Bernadette's [Melissa Rauch] company."

This could cause Leonard to be slightly threatened by her newfound power and income.

"She's going to start making some money, which will unbalance their relationship as the power shifts," Lorre teased. "She's going to find some confidence and self-esteem, which acting does not provide in great heaping doses."

Penny and Leonard got engaged at the end of Season 7, which ultimately led Sheldon (Jim Parsons) to consider leaving town after being informed that Leonard would likely be moving in with Penny.

The Big Bang Theory Season 8 is set to have its premiere on Monday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. on CBS. It will only be on Mondays for a few months in the fall as CBS makes way for Thursday Night Football. It will then return to its regular Thursdays at 8 p.m. timeslot.
