Not since people were wondering who shot Mr. Burns have people been more intrigued about a Simpsons mystery than they are right now.

Character To Die In The Simpsons' Season Premiere

Somebody on the show is going to die in the premiere episode of the long running show's 26th season, and this time it probably won't be Maggie. On Sunday, The Hollywood Reporter provided some details on just who it might be based on a conversation showrunner Al Jean had with reporters.

Jean said that "it turned out bigger than we thought it was going to be," indicating that this may be a bigger death than originally anticipated. He has also repeatedly said that the voice actor of the character who will die won an Emmy for voicing the character, and that the character has appeared more than twice. Additionally, the episode in question is entitled "A Clown in the Dumps," which seems to point the finger at Krusty the Clown.

The Simpsons Bringing Live Show To Hollywood

On the one hand, this could make sense. Krusty is known for his hard living, and he isn't so integral to the show that The Simpsons couldn't last without him. However, this also does not remove the character of Rabbi Krustofsky from the mix. Jackie Mason won an Emmy for voicing the character, who happens to be Krusty's father. Krusty's dad dying would certainly lead to a certain clown being in the dumps, and it would also keep the show from losing a major character.

The season premiere will air September 28 at 8:00 p.m. on FOX. At this point, viewers will finally know which character will die, and whether or not it really will be Krusty the Clown. Although, even if that's the case, a certain Rory B. Bellows might pop up again.
