Hough is set to come out with his first book, titled Taking the Lead: Lessons from a Life in Motion, on Aug. 5 and he is striking back at media outlets who have ran with stories of his supposed abusive childhood. Among them was RadarOnline's story saying that Hough claimed Shirley Ballas slapped him as a child when he was studying dance in London.

Hough took to Twitter Wednesday to express his anger towards such stories:

Shania Twain Reveals She May Compete in Dancing With the Stars

"For any media outlet to read and excerpt my upcoming book, Taking the Lead, and to report that I claimed I was mistreated in any way by any member of the Ballas family while they were parenting, loving and teaching me during my years in the UK is not only inaccurate, it is also irresponsible, inflammatory and unfair to the people I call my family." he wrote.

Hough studied dance alongside his sister, fellow Dancing With the Stars champion Julianne Hough, in addition to Mark Ballas. Derek has won the most seasons on Dancing With the Stars with five victories. His winning partners have included Brooke Burke in Season 7, Nicole Scherzinger in Season 10, Jennifer Grey in Season 11, Kellie Pickler in Season 16 and Amber Riley in Season 17.

His most recent partner was paralympian Amy Purdy and the pair placed second to Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis and partner Maks Chmerkovskiy.

Dancing With the Stars Season 19 is set to premiere Monday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. The first two weeks of the season will also feature a separate results show Tuesdays at 8 p.m.
